an officer on transfer from Police should retain

the privileges enjoyed while in Police,it seems

only fair that each privilege should have equal

consideration.

(2). True, there was no vacation leave in the

Police in 1994, but there was an offset of a Return

Second Saloon Mail passage to Europe, for the Office

of the rank of Crow Sergeant or higher, his wife

and family not exceeding four, which in my case in

1902 cost considerably more that the total amount I drew as 4 months full pay at 4/- dollar.

(8). At the time of my transfer from Police in

1898 I held the rank of Lance Sergeant and would

by ordinary routine have obtained the rank of

Crown Sergeant years before 1902 when I took first

leave as a Sanitary Inspector.

(4). From the awards of vacation leave under the

Order of lst.March 1894, it would seem that there

is a diversity of opinion in the interpretation of the word"appointed". In 1908 I was granted 4 months

vacation and my leave papers were endorsed "Officers

who joined the service before 1st.March 1894 are

entitled to 4 months vacation leave” „In 1906, and

1909, I was granted 3 months only: while Kr.6.G.

Burnett who transferred from Police same year as I

did, and went on leave in 1909 was granted 4 months

vacation.

(5). It seems unreasonable that had I joined the

Government Service in the Sanitary Department in

say February 1894 I would receive 4 months vacation

but though I joined the Government Service in the

Police Department in 1887 and by transferring to

Sanitary Department in 1898 forfeited the privilege
